Online Craps in Canada: Rules and Where to Play
How online craps works
Craps is a dice game with many bets, but the basic round is easier to follow if you start with the Pass Line. The first throw is the come-out roll. It either settles the line bet immediately or establishes a point that the shooter tries to repeat before a seven appears.
This guide explains those two phases, Pass and Don’t Pass bets, odds and other wagers, online formats, and checks for Canadian players. The casino listings below keep this site’s original referral links. A listing does not confirm that craps, a particular bet or real-money access is available for your account or province.

The come-out roll and the point
A craps round starts with a throw of two dice called the come-out roll. A roll of seven or eleven settles a Pass Line bet as a win. Two, three or twelve settles it as a loss. If the dice show four, five, six, eight, nine or ten, that number becomes the point and the round continues.
Once a point is set, the key question is whether the shooter repeats that point before rolling a seven. Repeating the point wins a Pass Line bet; seven first loses it. Other numbers do not settle that line bet, so there can be several throws in the same round. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s craps tutorial explains this sequence using Pass and Don’t Pass bets.
- Place an eligible line bet before the come-out roll.
- Seven, eleven, two, three or twelve may settle it immediately.
- Otherwise, remember the point: four, five, six, eight, nine or ten.
- Continue until the point repeats or a seven ends that point cycle.
The two dice can produce totals from two through twelve, but those totals are not equally likely. Seven has more possible dice combinations than two or twelve. Each new throw is still independent: a run of sevens does not make a point “due.”
Pass Line and Don’t Pass bets
Pass Line supports the shooter’s point cycle. On the come-out roll it wins on seven or eleven and loses on two, three or twelve. Once a point exists, it wins if that point repeats before seven and loses if seven appears first. A winning Pass Line bet normally pays even money, subject to the specific game’s rules.
Don’t Pass takes the opposing side. On a standard come-out roll it wins on two or three, loses on seven or eleven, and pushes on twelve, returning the stake. After a point is established, it wins if seven appears before the point and loses if the point repeats. Some variants change the treatment of a come-out number, so always read the displayed rules.
“Don’t Pass” does not mean you are betting against another customer. The game resolves your wager by the posted rules. You can learn the round without taking every available side bet. The MGM GameSense craps guide provides a concise description of both phases and line bets.
What is an odds bet?
After a point is established, some games let you add an odds bet behind a Pass Line wager. It wins if the point appears before seven, with a payout that depends on the point. A Don’t Pass player may be able to lay odds, betting on seven appearing first. The maximum odds multiple and exact payout must be checked at the table.
Casino guides describe the additional odds portion as paying at true mathematical odds, with no house edge on that portion alone. The original line bet still has a house edge, and adding odds increases the total amount you can lose in a round. “No house edge on odds” does not make the combined wager risk-free or guarantee a profit.
Before placing odds, check the table’s minimum and maximum, how to enter the extra amount online, and whether the available balance covers both stakes. Our Venetian craps guide explains the common point-based odds payouts and other wager types.
Come, place, field and proposition bets
A Come bet works much like a new Pass Line bet started after the table already has a point. It gets its own come-out-style result and may establish its own number. Place bets target a specific point number, generally four, five, six, eight, nine or ten, before seven. A Field bet usually resolves on the very next throw. Proposition bets often target a particular total or combination on one throw.
These bets have different payouts, house edges and timing. A large advertised payout on a one-roll wager does not mean that outcome is likely. Hardways, field bets and the “crapless craps” variant can all use different rules from the simple Pass Line round. Open the game’s help and paytable rather than moving chips around based only on the layout label.
A useful way to learn is to follow one line bet through a full round before adding any other wager. A practice mode can help you learn the interface if offered, but it does not predict real-money results. Dice control claims and “hot shooter” systems cannot make the next throw more predictable.
Digital craps and live table play
Digital craps uses a software interface to roll and display the dice under the game’s stated rules. A live table, where offered, streams a dealer-managed game. They can differ in pace, layout, minimum bets, side-bet selection and whether a free demo is available. We have not tested the logged-in craps lobby at any casino listed above.
Before betting, check the rule version, paytable, limits, odds multiple and whether a bet is active on the current throw. A mobile layout should clearly show the point, bet amounts and controls. If a stream or app disconnects, review the operator’s interruption policy and account history before repeating a bet. Our mobile casino guide, Android and iPhone pages cover device considerations.
Bonuses and banking for craps
Do not assume a welcome offer covers craps. Table games and particular bets may contribute less to wagering requirements or be excluded. Check the eligible-game list, contribution rate, maximum stake, expiry and withdrawal restrictions before opting in. A sign-up or deposit-match bonus is conditional promotional credit, not automatically withdrawable cash. Our casino bonus guide explains the main terms.
Confirm the account currency, deposit and withdrawal methods, verification requirements and any fees before funding an account. A deposit route may not support payouts. See our CAD guide and Visa, Mastercard and Neteller pages for payment checks.
The listings above provide starting points for comparison. Their Play links do not establish craps availability, bonus eligibility or provincial authorisation. Open the operator’s current game lobby and terms before registering. For other table games, see our blackjack, baccarat and roulette guides.
Eligibility and safer play in Canada
Online gambling rules and account availability vary by province. Check local requirements and the operator’s current terms. Ontario readers can use the iGaming Ontario operator directory to identify sites offered by regulated operators. A Canada-themed page or affiliate listing does not prove that every reader can register.
Set a spending and time limit before play. Craps layouts make it easy to place several wagers at once, so count the total amount at risk on a throw, including any odds and side bets. Chasing a loss with a larger stake does not change the next roll. The Responsible Gambling Council recommends sticking to a budget and not expecting to win back losses. Our responsible gambling guide points to further support.
Online craps FAQs
What is the come-out roll?
It is the first roll of a new point cycle. It can settle a line bet immediately or establish a point number.
Which numbers establish a point?
Four, five, six, eight, nine and ten establish a point under standard craps rules.
When does a Pass Line bet win?
It wins on a come-out seven or eleven, or when an established point repeats before a seven.
What happens to Don’t Pass on a come-out twelve?
It normally pushes, returning the stake. Check the exact variant because the displayed rules control.
What does “seven out” mean?
It means a seven appears after a point has been set, ending that point cycle. Pass Line loses and Don’t Pass wins under standard rules.
Are odds bets risk-free?
No. The extra odds portion may pay true odds, but it can still lose, increases the amount at risk and does not erase the line bet’s house edge.
Can a shooter control the dice?
No reliable technique makes a future throw predictable. Treat rolls as random and independent.
Do casino bonuses include craps?
That depends on the offer. Craps may contribute less to wagering or be excluded. Read the eligible-game and withdrawal rules.
Can I play craps on my phone?
Availability varies by operator and game. Check that the point, bet amounts, controls and rules are readable on your device before betting.
Are the listed casinos available in my province?
The listings do not establish eligibility or craps availability. Check the operator’s current terms and provincial rules.
